Kendra Vandertie

Kendra Vandertie grew up in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh with a Bachelor Degree in Social Work and a minor in Criminal Justice. She then attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a Master Degree in Social Work with an emphasis on Children, Youth and Families. She also has a Master Degree in Education Leadership from Marian University in Fond du Lac.

From there, Kendra worked for Outagamie County as an Ongoing Child Protection Social Worker, and then left to manage the Intake Unit for Calumet County. She briefly worked as a Child and Family Therapist with Family Services Residential Treatment Program in De Pere, Wisconsin.

In the fall of 2003, Kendra made the move to the Appleton Area School District. She served Edison and Lincoln Elementary as their School Social Worker and as the Homeless Coordinator for the district. Starting with the 2008-2009 school year, Kendra interned as Associate Principal at Huntley while also continuing as the district Homeless Coordinator. She was assigned the Associate Principal role two years later and was then awarded the lead Principal position for the 2012-2013 school year.

The Appleton Area School District and Huntley Elementary have become Kendra's new home. She enjoys visiting family in Sturgeon Bay and frequently travels to Door County for weekends and for the month of July. She resides in the Fox Valley area with her husband and their adopted dogs. She enjoys time with family and friends, while also traveling, reading, cooking, and learning.

Associate PrincipalAssociate Principal

MaiKou Heu

MaiKou Heu is the associate principal at Huntley Elementary and provides leadership to the District’s school counseling services. Prior to becoming an administrator in 2013, MaiKou was the Dean of Students at Lincoln Elementary and the school counselor at Highlands Elementary for 8 years. MaiKou has had many experiences working outside of the K-12 educational system providing individual and family counseling services, youth development, career development and teaching counseling graduate courses.  

MaiKou has a Master Degree in School Counseling from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh and a Master Degree in Administration, Curriculum Development, and Special Education/Pupil Services from National-Louis University. MaiKou received her Bachelor Degree in Education and Human Services from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. 

MaiKou was born in Laos and her family migrated to the United States when she was 2-years-old. She has lived in Appleton most of her life and is an alumni of Appleton East High School.

MaiKou lives in Appleton with her husband and 3 children. She enjoys time with her family, traveling, fishing and camping.
