Why Huntley Elementary School?

Huntley Roadrunners

Huntley Elementary is a large school that has all the nurturing characteristics of a small neighborhood school. Teachers make learning fun, while holding them to high standards of academics and behavior. We educate the “whole child” through the use of character building and rigorous academics.

Inclusive

At Huntley, we accept and embrace individuals of all ethnic backgrounds, cultural heritages, and ability levels. We create an atmosphere of mutual respect built on understanding and compassion.

Huntley is a school community where ALL students can flourish. Teachers strive to meet individual needs while fostering talents and strengths.

Huntley is a non-judgmental environment and respect for ALL students is promoted and modeled. Our ‘Togetherness Day’ displays how “Together we are more alike than different”.

Innovative

Huntley Elementary staff launched a new scheduling model to allow time for students to receive daily enrichment / intervention opportunities. This schedule provides grade level teachers weekly collaboration time to closely monitor student progress and to plan lessons for student success. In addition, all students have access to a variety of technology, including one-to-one Chromebooks and ViewSonic boards for interactive learning.

Progress Monitoring

Our Continuous School Improvement team is made up of grade level teachers, special education teachers, the building principal, associate principal, reading interventionist, math interventionist, and student services personnel. The team collaborates about the effectiveness of interventions and enrichment of all students. Together, they monthly to review grade level student progress for both struggling and high achieving students in comparison to the goals they have set to enhance student learning.

Building Character - PBIS

Huntley staff members strive to meet the needs of all learners by addressing their individual academic, social, and emotional needs. Our ultimate goal is to prepare each student to be a contributing member of society following the district model of "lead, care, contribute". Each month students learn about a different essential character trait through lessons in social skills focused on being Responsible, Respectful, and Safe. All students also participate in social skills lessons through Second Steps.

A School of Opportunities

We are fortunate to have committed staff members and families who are dedicated to providing a variety of opportunities to enrich student learning beyond the classroom.
